All of the electricity we use in our day to day operations is generated by either wind or geothermal. Essentially we have eliminated the pollution that was being discharged into the atmosphere because of the electricity we used to use. The electricity we are using is being generated by both the Salton Sea Geothermal Power Plant and the Aragonne Mesa Wind Farm. While we do purchase our electricity from both of these sources, we probably do not receive the actual electricity. It is fed into the power grid and delivered to an electric customer. We do not have a direct transmission line to these sites. This is different then purchasing a carbon offset certificate. The power is actually fed into the electric grid we are on. It is possible that we actually get to use the electricity we are buying, but nevertheless the power is being generated and used to replace an equal amount of "dirty" electricity. It is our intention to install solar panels on our building and start generating our own electricity.
Before we switched to clean renewable energy we were using electricity that produced 24,138 pounds of CO2 per year. That is the equivalent of 7.2 tones of coal burned, 27,144 miles driven in a car, or 2.88 acres of forest lost.
Now we essentially have removed that amount of pollution from entering our atmosphere every year.
When given the choice, we purchase post consumer recycled products, then pre consumer recycled products and finally regular products when no other choice is available.
We recycle all recyclable products in our operations.
When the choice is available we use organic raw materials that have come from sustainable operations.
The light bulbs we use in our office and homes are compact fluorescent.
The cleaning products we use in our homes and offices are green. Their are no petroleum products, all of the products are made from organic plants grown in a sustainable way.
The disinfecting and sanitizing products we use in our office and homes are safe for use around humans, have no toxic residue and do not cause resistant bacteria.
With every decision we make, the earth we live on and the health and well being of the individual is taken into consideration.
